About SLIT
What is sublingual immunotherapy?

Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT), known as allergy drops is a way to treat environmental allergies at their root cause. Extracts are made based on the individual's allergies and is used on daily basis by placing drops underneath the tongue. Therefore, allergy drops are administered at home as opposed to allergy shots.
Allergy drops are widely used in Europe for decades but their use in the US is limited because they are not approved by FDA. However, they are effective and in fact are associated with less chance of severe systemic reactions. SLIT is available to treat allergies to pollens, animal dander, dust mite and more spores.
Allergy drops should not be used in individuals with a history of a condition known as eosinophilic esophagitis.
The length of therapy with allergy drops is 3-5 years. Most individual will see a significant improvement in their symptoms after about a year being on this treatment.
